Overview

The Office of Victim Services stores SOECKs and other potential evidence until the victim of crime decides to participate in the criminal justice process. The law requires that kits and other items be stored for 20 years from the date of collection.

Upon request by the victim of crime or the parent/guardian of a minor (under 18) or victim of crime who has some other incapacity, OVS will release the SOECK and all other items to the law enforcement agency to which the offense was reported.
OVS will communicate directly with the law enforcement agency to facilitate the transfer of items. Law enforcement agencies may contact [email protected] for details.

Requesting the SOECK and all other items in storage be released to law enforcement is not the only option available to victims of crime. For more information, please visit the Information for Victims of Crime section.
